The Wonders of Engineering

Above is "The Rolling Bridge", in Paddington, London, by someone called Heatherwick (haven't done background check...). Those in London!! Visit it for me!! I envy you all :'(

Well, despite the traditional jokes poking fun at the divide between architects and engineers, we architects do have great respect for engineers. Was talking with my tutor about my current project, brainstorming structural solutions, when he dropped me this nugget of opinion, which I loosely quote: "Good structural engineers don't just give you ordinary structures, in fact, they can design structures according to the Golden ratio, or the Fibonacci sequence, making the structure not just load-bearing but also beautiful."

Can't agree more. Looking forward to meeting such a structural engineer!

By the way, this video: http://www.ted.com/talks/view/id/162 is about Dutch artist called Theo Jansen, who built "new life forms" using plastic tubes and bottles..it's TOTALLY COOL! Do watch it. Got the video from the website www.ted.com. The TED website is dedicated to "ideas worth spreading" and they have many videoclips of original, interesting stuff.
